Vice-President Elect Mike Pence did not shy away from John Lewis’s attack on Donald Trump. Instead, he took distinct issue with the Georgia representative.
“I think Donald Trump has the right to defend himself,” Pence said. “When someone of John Lewis’s stature, someone who is not only an icon in the civil rights movement but also someone who by virtue of his sacrifice on that day that we know as Bloody Sunday, he crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge and it was through that the Voting Rights Act itself – for someone of his stature to use terms like, ‘this is not a legitimate president,’ it’s just deeply disappointing to me.”
Mike Pence also said he hopes John Lewis “reconsiders” though he probably won’t. Lewis has been a politician for too many decades to step away from the liberal mantra and put country above party and self interest.
The DNC’s statement about Donald Trump’s response to the attack levied on him by John Lewis is quite ironic. They challenged Trump’s knowledge of history when it was the Georgian who couldn’t even remember his own.
“Donald Trump’s loathsome remarks on Congressman Lewis and the 5th District not only illustrate the president-elect’s classlessness – it further proves that Trump may be the most uneducated students of history to occupy the Oval Office,” the DNC official statement read.
Lewis made a big point of saying Trump is forcing him to skip an inauguration ceremony for the first time. That’s just not true — the Black Caucus member also skipped George W. Bush’s inauguration too! John Lewis sounds like nothing more than a sore loser… again.
Either Lewis is a liar or his memory had completely failed. Those are the only two options.
“You know, I believe in forgiveness. I believe in trying to work with people. It will be hard. It’s going to be very difficult. I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president,” Representative Lewis said about Trump.
Why was neither Bush nor Trump a legitimate president in Lewis’s eyes? That remains a bit unclear. The only connection between the two presidential races is that a Republican won… Hmm. All the liberal angst basically boils down to one simple thing—they lost.
Well, get over it. Patriotic Americans had to suffer through eight years of Obama – and we did so without making spectacles of ourselves and rioting!
